Skin Checks on the Sidelines: A Big Win at State of Origin Game 1
Skin Checks on the Sidelines: A Big Win at State of Origin Game 1
The energy was electric at Suncorp Stadium for Game 1 of the 2025 State of Origin, but it wasn’t just action on the field making an impact. Thanks to the support of Sportsbet and the NRL, the Australian Skin Cancer Foundation’s Mobile Skin Check Truck was on site, providing free, potentially life-saving skin checks to footy fans.
Throughout the day, our team of expert clinicians conducted 36 full body skin checks — a vital service that offers more than just peace of mind. Several important findings emerged from the event, including:
4 possible melanomas
4 possible basal cell carcinomas (BCCs)
1 possible squamous cell carcinoma (SCC)
Each of these findings is now being followed up by the individuals' GPs or specialists for further investigation and treatment. These numbers are a strong reminder of how critical early detection can be, and how community-based health outreach can make a real difference.
Providing free education and skin checks at major events like State of Origin allows us to meet people where they are, raise awareness about sun safety, and encourage regular skin surveillance.
Next Stop: Game 3 in Sydney
If you missed us in Brisbane, don't worry, the Skin Check Truck will be back in action for Game 3 at Accor Stadium in Sydney on Wednesday, July 9. Whether you’re a die-hard supporter or just soaking in the atmosphere, be sure to stop by and take a few minutes for your skin — it could save your life.
We thank our partners at Sportsbet, Ampol Australia, and the NRL for making this initiative possible, and we look forward to seeing even more fans take action for their health at the next game.
