Everything You Need to Know About the Skin Check Truck.
About the Skin Check Truck
-
Launched in June 2023, the ASCF Skin Check Truck is Australia’s first mobile national clinic providing free full-body skin checks and education on skin cancer prevention. It travels across the country to events, rural areas, and communities with limited access to dermatological care.
-
Skin cancer is Australia’s most common cancer, and early detection dramatically improves survival rates. The truck was developed to bring expert skin checks to people who may not have easy access to a dermatologist or GP trained in skin cancer detection, especially in rural and regional areas.
-
Depending on the location, you may be able to pre-book an appointment or attend as a walk-in, subject to availability.
At major events (e.g. stadiums or workplaces), the truck may offer both scheduled appointments and walk-in options.
-
The initiative is proudly run by the Australian Skin Cancer Foundation (ASCF) and supported by corporate partners, local councils and community organisations who help bring the service to towns and events nationwide.

Please bring photo identification and wear comfortable clothing that can be easily removed for the skin check. No referral is required, and the service is free. If you have had previous skin checks or biopsies, it’s helpful to bring any notes or results with you.
-
A standard full-body skin check usually takes around 10–15 minutes. If a suspicious spot is found, a few additional minutes may be needed for dermoscopic imaging and to discuss referral options.
Requesting a visit
-
Yes. Community groups, local councils, businesses, and event organisers can request a visit here.
-
The truck visits everything from agricultural shows and music festivals to sporting events, workplaces, and community health days. Whether you’re in a small town or a major city, the truck can be booked to provide skin checks at public or private events. Click here to enquire.
-
We recommend submitting requests at least 3–6 months in advance, as the national tour schedule fills quickly. Priority is often given to rural and regional communities with limited access to dermatological services.
Cost & Funding
-
The truck is funded through a combination of sponsorships, donations, and partnerships with community groups, corporate organisations, and local councils. This funding allows the service to remain free for the public.
-
Yes. As a not-for-profit initiative, the ASCF relies on community support. Donations can be made online here and go directly towards keeping the truck on the road and reaching more Australians.
Privacy & Results
-
If a lesion looks suspicious, the clinician will take a dermoscopic image and provide you with a referral recommending follow-up with a dermatologist. The truck does not provide biopsies or treatment on-site.
-
The truck is staffed by trained professionals, which may include melanographers, dermoscopists, general practitioners, and dermatologists depending on the event and location.
-
Your information and images are securely stored and only used for the purpose of your skin check and referral. By attending, you also opt into ASCF communications, but you can unsubscribe at any time. Personal results are never shared without your consent.
