Australia’s Skin Cancer Foundation Skin Check Truck detects a melanoma on Queensland NRL Origin women’s player, Emma Verran (nee Tonegato)
Australian rugby league star and Olympic gold medallist Emma Verran (née Tonegato) OAM recently shared an important reminder about sun safety and skin checks, after a suspicious mole on her back was flagged during a visit to the Australian Skin Cancer Foundation’s Skin Check Truck.
In a video posted to her Instagram, the Queensland State of Origin and Cronulla Sharks NRLW player revealed that a suspicious mole on her back was diagnosed as a melanoma, reinforcing her heartfelt message to all Australians: “Get a skin check.”
Emma’s story is a timely and sobering reminder of how vital early detection is. With many Aussies still delaying skin checks, her bravery in speaking publicly about her experience may well save lives.
Now preparing for a second surgery to ensure all of the melanoma is removed, Emma remains positive and focused and encouraging others to take action.
From all of us at the Australian Skin Cancer Foundation, we’re sending Emma our love and support as she undergoes her next procedure - and we thank her for using her platform to raise awareness about a disease that affects so many Australians.
